D & D Smith Winery is run by a family of four. We have all been a part of making wine for over a decade! In 2014 our boys Joe and Cori and their friend Dave helped with the Sangria wine you purchase today. They used all their own fruits and created a medium rose', fruity wine!
We have been in business since January 2008 and went through our 1st "crush season" in the fall of 2008. We have opened a winery to provide tastings, GREAT TIMES, private parties, indoor/outdoor seating, and foods.
In 2016 we started an addition that's still going strong early 2018! Ok, it's just taking us awhile! We've put on a pavilion, working toward a new kitchen serving brick oven pizza, pasta, and home made breads....hope to have ready early 2018!
We've been making wines for over 30 years! At the end of 2017 we will have 35 wines to purchase including two wine slushies always ready to enjoy on premise! Check out our link above for a list of our wines. We will have available the Frontenac Gris and Moscato by early spring 2018. The Frontenac Gris is our only Estate wine we grow about a mile up the road. This grape is a hybrid the Ohio State University Extension office thought would be good for us to grow nearly 12 years ago and it's been a great tasting wine which did win an award in 2016. Speaking of awards did you know we have 15 award winning wines? Yep! Apple Cinn was our first nearly 4 years ago and since then our Maple City, Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Peach, Riesling, He Said She Said, Sangria, Sangiovese, & Crooked House have been award winners!
Coming from humble beginnings (picture is from basement of our home the first year in operation) We strive to have great tasting wine with a quality finish! You can see this with our award winning wines such as He Said She Said which won a Gold in 2017, or Riesling which won a Double Gold in 2016, or even our Apple-Cinn which won a Double Gold in 2015!
This is in the basement of our home around September 2008. We took a room, put locks on both doors (for our federals you know!), had 7 tanks of 600 liters each, a 6 prong bottle filler shown and a stand alone hand corker. That was the start of D and D Smith Winery! More to come!
